What is the role of the WMO?
Can I become a member of the WMO, and what are the benefits?
Currently any country producing macadamias (over 500MT) is very welcome to become a member of the WMO. The primary benefit is that through contributing to the advertising and promotional fund. We are able to stimulate demand for macadamias and maintain their premium position over time. As well as contributing to a stronger macadamia industry by combining resources with others, members have access to resources including research reports, industry information, opportunities to partake in workshops, webinars and networking opportunities, online access to Members’ portal and input into key industry initiatives, such as product standards and nutritional messaging.

What does it cost to become a member?
Membership fees are determined by a few factors including, annual macadamia volume percentage and kernel recovery rate. Get in contact and we will let you know the details for your organisation or country.

The two largest macadamia producing countries are South Africa and Australia.
What is the difference between the WMO and Love Macadamia™?
The WMO (World Macadamia Organisation) introduced the Love Macadamia™ campaign in May 2022. While the WMO supports the macadamia industry, Love Macadamia™ is consumer focussed. Both the WMO and Love Macadamia™ have their own websites – www.worldmacadmia.com and www.lovemacadamia.org
What industry data is available?

Is there a common product standard and style definition?
The WMO worked with its members to create a Macadamia Kernel Product Standard. This then evolved to a Macadamia Kernel Product Standard & Visual Guide (which is available for purchase by contacting info@worldmacadamia.com) which includes the Macadamia Style Guide. Both the Macadamia Kernel Product Standard and Macadamia Style Guide are downloadable here.

Where can I source macadamias?
Macadamias can be sourced from suppliers in macadamia producing countries, from marketing business specialising in macadamias, and also from most distributors of other types of nuts. To see a list of the WMO members who are processors, handlers or macadamia marketing organisations please visit us.
Are macadamias readily available?
Yes, macadamia supply is increasing. From 2021 to 2022 the supply increased by 23%, to 298,000MT of nut-in-shell. The forecast for 2027 is 503,000MT, a compound annual growth rate of 11%. To see the countries that produce macadamias and their forecast growth, click here.
Are macadamias expensive?
Now is a great time for product developers to think about using macadamias in their formulations as currently they are more affordable as an ingredient and supply is increasing over time. To see the price trends of containers of kernel imported in the USA over time click here.
What are the benefits of including macadamias in my products?
Macadamias have excellent nutritional credentials that are highly relevant to long term food trends.
They contain high levels of good fats (Omega-9 and Omega-7), they are low in carbs and won’t cause a spike in bloody sugar levels, they are nutrient dense and can help address inflammation related issues.
